Cookie Plug coming to Downtown Memphis: What to expect at the hip-hop-themed dessert shop
A new hip-hop-themed cookie store is coming to Downtown Memphis.
Dessert shop Cookie Plug will open at the former RawGirls location at 150 Peabody Place, Suite 118. The chain sells a variety of large cookies that are part cookie, part cake and part brownie.
Progress on the opening is apparent — the shop’s outside sign was seen being installed Wednesday. The shop is expected to open in late February.
This will be the second location for the chain in the Memphis area, with the first opening in Germantown in June from franchise owners Nathalie and Hector Garcia.
Nathalie Garcia said that while the Downtown store’s menu offerings will stay the same, interior design changes will be made to make each store feel unique, including the murals inside.
“We are going to be honoring the teams here in Memphis — the Tigers, Grizzlies and the Redbirds,” she said. “We’re going to have something also symbolizing Memphis. Different graphics, different colors, everything is going to be different. We want to make sure that each store stands out.”
Cookie Plug’s menu certainly stands out. Some of the wilder flavors offered include the Bam Bam Cookie made with Fruity Pebbles, Purple Haze, a purple-colored cookie with white chocolate chips, the red velvet flavored Good Luv Cookie, and the strawberry cheesecake flavored Pink Elephant Cookie. The online menu lists 16 cookies total.
Garcia said the success of the Germantown location has given them the confidence to expand, with many more stores planned in the future.
“Thankfully it has been going good,” Garcia said. “We want to make sure that we buy out the Tennessee district, and also get Mississippi. I can say maximum probably 15 locations… we have other things we’re working on as well, so it’s kind of hard to say.”
The new location will stay open later to account for the nightlife aspect of Downtown, going as late as 2 a.m. on Saturdays, as well as having more merch on sale.
Cookie Plug was founded in 2019 in Riverside, California, and has since grown to 31 locations across 13 states. The only other Tennessee location in Knoxville closed in 2024.
